Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory |
The destination airport for the radar school is San Juan (SJU).
While Puerto Rico sounds far away and expensive seen from Europe, we checked flight prices, and at the moment one can fly all the way from Finnish Lapland to San Juan for less than 900 EUR. Thus booking early is the key. Therefore we will decide on acceptance of participants immediately after the deadline, so you will be able to book in March.
First of all, thanks to the EISCAT Scientific Association, which supports the Radar School financially, there is no registration fee, but full board, which means three meals are provided during the school! Thanks to the guest rooms at Arecibo Observatory, all students will be accommodated in double or triple rooms at USD 112.35/week (double) or USD 133.75/week (triple).
Therefore we are very happy to announce that the only costs you or your institute will have to cover is the travel (flights, see above) and the super-cheap accommodation!
Should you require a single room, then you will need to make your own arrangements using near-by hotels, and renting a car, so that you can travel between the school and your hotel. If you decide to do this, it is imperative that you contact us at as soon as possible so that we can assist and possibly team up students to share transport and generally give advice on practicalities.
Please fill in the registration form carefully and tell us of your visa needs! Esp. make sure to give us a valid e-mail address and phone number, so we can contact you in case of questions. Only then we can guarantee prompt issue of a Letter of Invitation, which will allow you to apply for a visa.
