Abstract
High time-resolution measurements of electron density in the lower ionosphere by the EISCAT UHF incoherent scatter radar are analysed using the detailed time-dependent Sodankylä Ion Chemistry (SIC) model. A series of localised electron precipitation events allows an experimental determination of the effective recombination coefficient. This can be used as a constraint to the model in order to analyse the response of ion and neutral composition to the precipitation. Possibilities for new studies using the combination of incoherent scatter radars, imaging riometers and the model are described.
